It’s not *illegal* – because it’s not possible. It’s like giving someone a mailing address that’s not yours, then expecting them to send you mail. Your IP address is the address to which the data you request gets sent. If you hide your IP address, or use one that’s not yours, you’re not on the internet.

A friend in another state is paying me to take her math exams, which are administered online. I am afraid that the instructor will see my IP and realize that it is not local. Is it possible for me to make my IP temporarily appear as one from a different location? To hide the IP, could I use a proxy?

Proxy servers like Tor will hide your IP, but it is very unlikely that the professor can see the IP of which it is submitted, and even if they can they more then likely won’t be able to track where it is coming from.

tl;dr If they ask her why her IP is so far away, tell her to say she was using tor a proxy server.

I wanted to know if you can hide your IP address from your ISP? I’ve read that you can’t but would just like to make sure. I have a new ISP and my earlier one warned me twice coz they knew what exact movies/TV series (Rush hour 3 & the Riches) I downloaded from torrents and they were copyrighted. Anyways, I would really appreciate some enlightening answers.

You can’t hide your IP from your ISP as they are the ones who assign the IPs. You can however take measures to ensure you are not tracked or monitored when using the internet.

Google a piece of software called “PeerGuardian 2″, it should stop you from being tracked when downloading movies etc through torrent technology.

It will block all known government/private sector IPs from monitoring your activity.

Question by Anon: Does hiding IP Address also hide Multiple PCs on same Internet ?
Ill give you a clear example of what I mean;

If 4 Laptops are on the same Wireless Internet connection, but I use 4 different geographically-specific anonymous proxy servers for each one of them. Lets say Brazil, Russia, Spain, and Italy.

I understand each, individual laptops’ IP Address is hidden, but will doing this ALSO hide the fact that they are all on the same internet connection?

So I already posted something on Wikipedia before I realized I wasn’t on an account, and now my IP address is ‘viewable’ in the “edit history” tab.. How exactly do I “remove” my ip address from there or hide it? I just made an account, but, it still has my IP address as having edited it there..

Ah, it’ll be fine. My IP is on there too, and I was vandalizing articles too! lol

A lot of people’s IPs are on there.
